The visitor is spoiled for choice of
pubs in all the towns and villages around Newry. Many provide live
entertainment. Just a few are noted for the quality of traditional music
to be sampled there. In the town of Newry, Nan Rices on Francis Street is
recommended.
On Thursday nights, a session can be had in the Railway Bar in
Monaghan Street. Just outside the town, the Cove Bar on the Hilltown Road
has its traditional music evening on Tuesdays. Also on Tuesday nights an
excellent traditional session is on offer in Forkhill. Nearby
in the Stray Leaf in Mullaghbawn, good traditional music is offered every
Saturday night. To sample some traditional music you should search for
MP3's by traditional artists such as The Chieftains, Aslan or
Planxty.
